Devil May Cry

While chronologically the second game of the series, Devil May Cry is where it all began. With his sword and twin-pistols in hand, the white-haired pretty boy known as Dante has since gone on to be one of the most iconic characters in the action genre.

But, of course, a character alone does not a game make - its hack-and-slash gameplay is what kept the fans coming back for more. And with its stylish maneuvers, frantic pace and crazy difficulty it's easy to see why the Devil May Cry series developed such a following.
